Parent Resources

BIBLES:

Here are the ones that I recommend for each stage of your little one’s growth and development.

Infants to 4 years:

The Story for Little Ones

The beginners Bible

-  This bible tells the stories in a very literal way with not too much interpretation.  In addition, the stories are all very short and

4 year olds – 2nd grade

The Jesus Storybook Bible

-      This is, hands down, the BEST storybook bible I have gotten in my hands.  Each old Testament story points to Jesus and each new testament story helps your little one to focus on the never stopping, never  giving up, always and forever love of Christ!

For 2nd graders – 5th graders

The Adventure Bible

PARENTING BOOKS:

Though there are many fantastic resources out there, these are some that I am both familiar with and a fan of. I hope they are a blessing to you and your family as they have been to mine.

Pregnancy:

-       What to Expect When You’re Expecting by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel

-       The Pregnancy Test by Melissa Hecksher

Books for Infants:

-       The Secrets of a Baby Whisperer by Melinda Blau and Tracy Hogg

  • This is an excellent book that is very balanced in the schedule versus no schedule debate.  Schedules are are presented as important, but with lots of practical advice on how to help you and your little one actually comitt to them.

Toddler / Preschool Years:

-       Loving the Little Years by Rachel Jankovic

  • This is a precious and short book about how to enjoy and parent carefully during the toddler through early elementary years.  Lots of great little practical exerpts and stories.

Spiritual Parenting:

-       Shepherding a Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp

  • This has some great points about how to plan and make goals for the type of family that you want to become.
  • However, this book is very adamant that spanking is the only form of biblical punishment.  So please know that we as a church believe that there are many effective ways of training and discipline and believe that you as a parent have been given excellent grace and wisdom from God as to how to most effectively parent.

-       Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with Love of Jesus by Elyse Fitzpatrick and Tullian Tchividjian

  • This has some wonderful examples of how to talk about Christ with your kids.

Praying for your kids

-       Praying the Scriptures for Your Children by Jodie Berndt

-       Family Blessing by Rolf Garborg

Other ones I want to read, that I haven’t yet:

-       52 Things Kids Need From a Mom by Angela Thomas

-       The Strong Willed Child Dr. James Dobson

-       Grace Based Parenting by Tim Kimmel
